Production

On February 26, 2016, Guillermo left the post of director of the sequel but remained as the producer. The Spaniard began to work on the remake of the classic picture “Fantastic Voyage” in January of 2016, so he did not have enough time for two projects. He had to sacrifice something.

The new director became Steven S. DeKnight. This American is the creator of the series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” and “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.” Also, he wrote the script for several episodes of the cult epic “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

A script for the picture, in collaboration with Del Toro, was written by Jon Spaihts.
