The first chapter in this chart-topping series came out back in 2013 and grossed over 540 million dollars, which made it the most commercially successful zombie apocalypse movie in history. The official sequel was announced shortly, and it was supposed to come out this summer. However, the release date was moved to late 2018. Still, this is one of the most anticipated films of the next year, especially after the World War Z 2 movie trailer 2018.
It’s confirmed that David Fincher will be directing the film, while Brad Pitt, the lead actor, will return to his respective role for chapter 2. No info about the rest of the cast, though. Back in 2012, before the first movie hit the theaters, Foster admitted that he had a vision for this franchise and that it was supposed to be an epic trilogy. Paramount said the same thing, practically giving it the green light.
Not Just Another Zombie Apocalypse Movie
The team behind the series had spent a lot of time and energy on trying to make it extremely realistic and without the cliché zombie twists and turns. The insanely popular The Walking Dead TV show was one of their biggest inspirations. The big-time budget, Foster’s professionalism, and Pitt’s charisma will, without a doubt, be enough to make us want to buy a ticket to the premiere without any further marketing.
That’s because while the critics didn’t really like it that much, the fans fell in love with the plot and the characters. Unfortunately, the World War Z 2 teaser trailer doesn’t give us any insights as to where the franchise will go in terms of the story. On the bright side, the action scenes are, simply awesome.
Wild Guesses, Theories, And Hopes
Fact: the movie could have already been out if the initial director and screenwriter didn’t leave the project in 2015 and 2016. Yes, that’s why we had to wait for so long — it’s not that easy to make a big-time blockbuster when people are coming in and out of the project on a regular basis. Thankfully, it’s all behind us now, and WWZ 2 is right around the corner. As far as thrilling horror/sci-fi bangers go, this is the obvious leader of the 2018-2019 run. We usually don’t get big-time pros and actors on a zombie apocalypse movie, and that’s one of the reasons why WWZ is such a huge success.
Again, we know almost nothing about the story: has it been long after the virus broke through? Is it finally quarantined or is everything even worse now? The new World War Z 2 official trailer 2018 does reveal some details, but it’s not even enough for making crazy theories. A quick fact: this franchise is based on a bestselling book series, and if you’ve got some interesting guesses and assumptions about the sequel, please, do share them in the comments!
